Justin Kirkpatrick is a freelance Lighting and Scenic Designer based in New York City.
Holding a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatrical Design & Production from Brooklyn College, and a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a specialization in Technical Theatre, from Troy University in Troy, AL. His journey has seen him collaborate with directors, designers, and theater companies across the nation, including prestigious venues like The Santa Fe Opera, Off-Broadway's Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre, The Tank NYC, and Birmingham Children’s Theatre. Justin has also works as a Junior Designer for upLight, a lighting design firm working architecture and live performances.
A member of IATSE Local 78 in Birmingham, Justin has lent his expertise as a Rigger, Carpenter, and Electrician to a myriad of theatrical and concert tours, featuring blockbuster productions such as The Lion King and Hamilton, alongside renowned acts like Elton John and Cirque du Soleil.
In academia, Justin has taught for the past four years as an Adjunct Lecturer, offering courses in Stagecraft, Introduction to Production, and Lighting and Scene Shop Practicum at universities along the East Coast.
In leadership roles, Justin has served as the Technical Director of both the Birmingham Children’s Theatre and Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York, NY as well as for various productions around New York City.
When not immersed in the world of theater, Justin spends time with his family, residing in New York City alongside his wonderful wife, Haley, and their two children Emma and James.
